This is the list of Frequently-Asked Questions. It is intended as a first resource for the owners, users and developers of Maxatec products or services.

  • I have a label presenter on my Cognitive printer. When I print a second label it pushes the first label off the presenter. Should this happen?

No, this should not happen. To prevent this you will need to configure the printer to use the label present sensor.

If you are using Windows Drivers - NiceDriver - you can enable this feature through the driver. If you are communicating directly to the printer without using the drivers you will need to send the printer a file that will enable the function.

Open Notepad and copy the following text. Save it in a known location and then send it to the printer.

    ! 0 0 0 0
    VARIABLE PRESENTLABEL ON 0 0
    VARIABLE WRITE
    END

  • What protocols are your RF printers compatible with?

Our main RF label printer, the Code Ranger can be compatible with 802.11b and 802.11a.

The relevant RF card will be packaged with the printer depending on your requirements.

802.11b (also known as Wi-Fi) and 802.11a are both IEEE standards used in Ethernet Wireless communication.

  • What is IrDA?

IrDA is the most commonly used standard for infrared communication. IrDA is used to wirelessly transmit data.

Extech printers and the Cognitive Code Ranger printers all have IrDA capability.

IrDA is useful because it can be found on virtually all handheld terminals and devices. It is as simple as point, transmit and print.

  • What is Bluetooth™?

Bluetooth™ is a technology used for short-range wireless (Radio Frequency) communication between two devices. It removes the need for wires, making connections much simpler and easier.

The most common application for a Bluetooth™ device is in a mobile phone and headset. Extech printers use Bluetooth™ to wirelessly communicate with handheld terminals to print and transmit mica readings.

  • Why can't I print certain letters/alphabetic characters?

The characters used in alphabets are stored in code pages. There are many different code pages available, to handle then many varieties of alphabet characters used through out the world. All our printers come with the most commonly used code pages. However if you are using some special, region-specific characters you will need to add the relevant code page to your printer.

See the development manual of your printer for more information.

  • Why does my barcode printer skip labels?

If, when you print a label, an extra label is fed through the printer then it is likely that the label height is too high for the size of label you are using. Try reducing its size.

If the printer feeds more than one extra label, or it continues feeding labels, the printer may have an index problem. To fix this problem you will need to calibrate your printer.
